Many people will say don’t do it or there are no lodges that allow kids on drives but there are some and if you would like to go on safari in South Africa with children then have a read. There are many lodges that are child friendly but still have restrictions on ages allowed on drives but offer private vehicles at a fee.
These are lodges that are child friendly & allow children on game drives.
Greater Kruger National Park – malaria area:
Gomo Gomo – Klaserie Game Reserve
Welcomes all ages
Waterhole at the lodge
Very well priced.
Honeyguide Khoka Moyà
It’s in the Manyeleti game reserve which borders Kruger, Timbavati, Sabi Sands & Mala Mala. Less than a 10 min drive from Orpen gate.
All ages are welcome. It’s a tented camp and unfenced.
Great for wildlife sightings.
Tintswalo Manor house or presidential suite Also in the Manyeleti.
Manor house can sleep up to 10 people so a great option for a family getaway, you have your own vehicle, chef etc.
You can sit in the pool overlooking a waterhole and watch the wildlife go by.
Ngala Safari lodge family cottages or suites They have family suites
or cottages which come with their own private vehicles.
They have a wildchild programme which is activities etc. for kids
Phinda Mountain Lodge family cottages or suites in Kwazulu Natal – low
risk malaria area Also part of &Beyond like Ngala so also have a wildchild programme.
Tswalu – Kalahari
An expensive option but they are very child friendly and they have many great activities to keep all ages occupied.
You get your own game drive vehicle for your stay so you can choose your times , how long you want to stay out on a drive and also what animals you would like to focus on.
It’s a quick 2 hour flight from Cape Town or Johannesburg so easy to get to and convenient if you were in Cape Town & leaving from Johannesburg.
The only negative is that there are no elephants but they do focus on smaller animals that you normally never get to see so you can see pangolin, aardvark, habituated meerkats and so much more.
