Description
Unlike Zanzibar, which is flat and sandy, Pemba Island is lush with vegetation with a scattering of hills. The stretch of coastline along Pemba is lined with hidden lagoons and idyllic isles. Pemba Island boasts some of the best reefs in the world as well as an abundance of sea-life to while away the hours under the sea and experience a world-class diving experience in the East of Africa.
Just to be clear: This is a remote island off the east coast of Africa, and probably as far away from civilisation you might ever find yourself. The Manta Resort is not a 5 star luxury resort and certainly different to what you might find on other tropical islands. If you’re expecting bling bling bling you will be disappointed. If you however are looking for serenity, close encounters with nature and a close knit family of people we look forward to sharing our island with you.
This is Manta, our treasured hideaway where you can feel the simplicity of a naturally evolved traditional Swahili island culture – and timeless peace and quiet. Feel part of our Pembian family, our local staff, trained from the go to translate their natural unspoilt kindness and happiness into helping you in all ways to enjoy freedom and low-key modern comfort. A group of good people who proudly endeavour to make Manta the special place it is. From the moment you arrive, your every conceivable activity and service during your stay will be Fully Inclusive (with the exception of diving and outside tours). You will have your own service fundi – a member of staff assigned to assist you personally – even perhaps to take you on visits to his village to meet relatives – if you so wish.
The diving around Pemba Island, Zanzibar is nothing else but breathtaking. The untouched coral reefs surrounding the entire island make Pemba one of the top dive sites in the world.
Catherine & Paul –
It’s so refreshing to have a travel agent show genuine interest in the type
of holiday you’re longing for. We felt that our brief was not only met by
Sandy at Love Africa Travel, but improved upon.
Pemba, Tanzania must be one of the few islands which is largely untouched by
man. A short flight from Zanzibar and a somewhat dry and dusty drive from
the airport in the South, to Manta Bay Resort in the North.
Here the relaxation begins immediately; a small resort with a private beach,
turquoise ocean (abound with tropical fish), a swimming pool, 2 bars and a
local Swahili to act as your waiter and guide for the duration of your stay.
Highlights include wonderful open water diving and snorkelling, sunset sails
on a Swahili dugout, daily massages in the spa and sundowners at the beach
bar.
The Resort is probably less suited to young children and singletons due to
the remote setting and (luckily) shortage of organised entertainment.
We found the resort to be comfortable and eco conscious and look forward to
a return trip soon to relax and reconnect with nature
